54,81 km cycling route from Le Pont-de-Montvert to Sainte-Enimie

This GTMC stage starts with a dramatic, narrow ascent, with views down on the Tarn Gorges. You’re heading up to one of the high Causses. But you branch off the GTMC VTT mountain-biking route to take the départementale, county road to reach the Col du Sapet, then you ride along wide forest tracks before rejoining the GTMC VTT.

Elevation of the stage

1302 m 899 m

You then descend to the valley bottom, the route leading you past the magnificent collegiate church of Bédouès, to reach Florac, little capital of the wild Cévennes Region. Next, the GTMC meanders along the banks of the Upper Tarn, crossing the river at several points to reach the very pretty villages of Ispagnac and Quézac. You’re going to continue on to Sainte-Enimie, at the very end of this stage, generally following the north bank of the Tarn by road.
So, the first ascent is on a road with views down on the Tarn Gorges. You then arrive on a Causse limestone plateau and cross the state-owned Forêt de Ramponenche via broad forest tracks.
After the Col du Sapet pass, the way is mostly made of descents to take you back down to the Tarn River before the village of Bédoues.
Next, you ride on to the town of Florac via stretches of road that hug the Tarn.
After Quézac, the Gravel route follows the north bank (rive droite) road up to Sainte Enimie, avoiding the many challenging singletracks to be negotiated on the Tarn’s south bank (rive gauche).
