Starting out from La Grande Verrière, bypass certain difficulties along the mountain-biking route by using the easier, smoother paths indicated up to Saint Léger sous Beuvray.
At La Tagnière, you finish sharing any route with the Grande Traversée du Morvan once and for all, as that cycle route branches off to the north, leading cyclists to Autun via the renowned boulder-strewn site of Uchon.
In the higher parts of the Bois de Chaumont woods, the GTMC cycle route guides you along a fun path that takes you zigzagging through oak woods. However, this stage isn’t technically challenging.
Overall, it’s very easy to tackle on gravel bike, presenting few difficulties.
The final stretch to Toulon-sur-Arroux is along a tarmacked road running alongside the Arroux River.

This alternative stage then leads you to Issy-L'Evéque, with its listed château and church, before you continue on by following the main path of the GTMC Gravel cycle route.
The climb to the top of Mont Beuvray may be via broad paths, but the way proves steep and winding in parts; in addition, you may find hikers sharing the way.
In order to avoid a relatively steep, pebbly descent requiring concentration and extremely good control of your bike, the Gravel route guides you along a minor road, followed by paths, up to Larochemillay.
